Great Facilities

Campers enjoy state-of-the-art facilities at the Washington DCJCC, including a gymnasium, dance studio, indoor pool, art classroom, community hall, kitchen classroom, squash/racquetball courts and a theater, plus nearby playgrounds and fields.

Staff and Safety

The safety and well-being of our campers are our top priorities.  We maintain low camper-to-counselor ratios (on average 7:1) to ensure that our campers are well-supervised at all times.  All staff members are certified in First Aid, and lead counselors are also certified in CPR.

Lunch & Snacks
Each day, campers should bring a vegetarian or dairy lunch that is peanut-free.  On Fridays, lunch is on us. Snacks and beverages will be provided to campers every day.  Please do not send meat, pork or shellfish.  We are not able to refrigerate lunches, but we recommend freezing their drink the night before and using that as an ice pack in the morning.

Transportation
The Washington DCJCC is conveniently located in the heart of Dupont Circle.  We are four blocks east of the Dupont Circle Metro—Q Street exit; it's a 10-15 minute walk to the J.  Curbside drop-off and pick-up and our adjacent parking lot make it easier for commuting parents.  As camp time nears, we will contact parents who may like to form carpools from their neighborhoods.  We are not able to offer transportation to and from camp.

Registration and Deposit
To reserve a slot in camp, please complete the registration form, and send it to us with a $200 non-refundable deposit for each child for each session.  To register for a Summer Fun Week, the non-refundable deposit is $100 for each child.  You may also choose secure registration online at http://ga6.org/thejat16thandq/events/summercamp08/details.tcl

Payment may be made by cash, check or credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover).

Camp registration is on a first-come, first-served basis.  The balance of camp fees, all camp forms, a completed emergency form and an up-to-date health form are due in the Camp Office by 5:00 pm on Friday, May 23, 2008.

Refunds
No refunds will be made for absences or withdrawals during the camp season (May 23–August 22).  The Washington DCJCC reserves the right to request that a camper leave the 16th Street J’s camp because of violation of the camp regulations or because of personal conduct which interferes with the health or welfare of her/himself or others.  If this should occur, no refunds will be given.

Cancellation Policy
The Washington DCJCC reserves the right to cancel any camp program due to insufficient enrollment.  Should this occur, we will make every effort to accommodate registered campers in other programs.  If we cannot do so, we will offer a full refund.

Camp Discounts

Sibling Discounts:  Families registering one camper for at least one session of camp can receive a 10% discount on their second child’s overall bill and 20% on their third child’s overall bill.  Families receiving the Sibling Discount are not eligible for the Early Bird Discount.  This also applies to older siblings of children in our Preschool; they will receive 10% off their overall bill, too.

Early Registration:  Campers registered and paid in full by 3:00 pm Friday, April 11, 2008, will receive 10% off their overall bill.  Families receiving the Early Bird Discount are not eligible for the Sibling Discount.

Partial Sessions

While we think it is best for a camper to stay for a full session, we know that it does not always work out that way for your family’s schedule.  Therefore, we do allow partial-session registration. If you would like to register for a shorter session, we will pro-rate the fees by week with a surcharge of $50 for the week missed.

The Washington DCJCC campers represent the brilliant diversity of our nation's capital.  We welcome all children, regardless of religion, race or cultural background, to experience our exciting, nurturing camps which incorporate Jewish—and universal—values such as Tikkun Olam (healing the world), Tzedakah (charity) and equal rights for all.

The Paula Seigle Goldman Fund, the Rosayln Hirsch Scholarship Fund, the Shirley Povich Sports Scholarship Fund and the Irving Wallace Endowment Fund support participation in and the programs of the J’s Summer Day Camp. The recently established Bernard and Etta Watson Science Education Fund also supports programming during camp.
